How to Promote an Event

An effective way to find new clients is to have a live presentation, lecture, workshop or class. Participants are more likely to do business with a company they have experience with and are familiar with. A live event can give participants information about a topic your company is knowledgeable about, which creates a relationship between your company and the event participants.

Whether your event is free or requires a paid admission, a successful event requires an effective marketing campaign to get the word out about your upcoming event. This is often the most difficult part of the event planning and can require a lot of time and effort. The more marketing opportunities a business utilizes to promote their event, the likely it becomes to find participants.

Start by creating a marketing plan, similar to a business plan. Determine what your objectives are for the upcoming event, and consider what type of target market would be most ideal to attract.

Consider where your ideal clients would be most likely to see your promotion efforts and concentrate your marketing in those areas. Evaluate how many particpants are needed for a successful turnout, and plan on having at least one to two promotional efforts for each participant desired. For example, if you need five participants, you should promote your event in at least five different areas.

Make a list of possible marketing opportunities which could be utilized. Suggested places include community bulletin boards, email blasts, social media, flyers, direct mailings to current clients, invitations, press releases, etc. Ask friends, family, and current clients to help you spread the word.
