As the largest of the seven emirates in the UAE, Abu Dhabi is deemed as the richest, which occupies a majority of countrys total land mass, making up more than 80% of it. Boasting the most idyllic setting, touched by the exotic Arabian culture, it prides itself in having a distinct surrounding that combines well with the hands of modernity as there are many world-class infrastructure that have mushroomed in the region.

A budding tourist attraction, there have been many events that Abu Dhabi has hosted over the years. Attracting a large number of people from all walks of life, the array of organized events has brought on wide popularity to the city. Extending to a global scale, the emirate has garnered recognition as one of the best places to plan such events, possessing the potential to entertain visitors the moment they step on Arabian soil. Some of these events have included significant cultural events and world class sporting events such a PGA golf tournament and F1 Grand Prix. Perhaps one of the leading events that bring about a reason for many to flock in the region is the International Triathlon tournament.

Already having a reputation for having the most excellent conditions for sporting events, the International Triathlon is on its second year which brings about all athletes, novices and experts to compete against each other. The second edition will be held on Saturday 12th March 2011 and is said to be bigger than last years inaugural event.

The 2011 tournament will bring triathlon teams from around the world, consisting of approximately 800 athletes from 30 different countries. The success of the tournament in the previous year was received with such overwhelming support and participation that the organizers have included more events, expanding the activities to cater to the growing sporting field.
Allowing teams to pre-register, the competitions organized will not leave the competitors disappointed as the teams will have the chance to tackle short and long distance courses. The long distance competition will include 200km bike, 3km swim and 20km run whereas the short distance competition will include 100km bike, 1.5km swim and 10km run.

Opening up to budding triathlon enthusiasts and UAE locals who are sporting aficionados, sprint distance has been added in the proceedings of the tournament. The Abu Dhabi Sprint Distance will include 50km bike, 750m swim and 5km run. Also planned is the team relay which features the same short distance competitions.

Offering the largest prize money, the course will be the same as last year where the swim section will be taking place by the Emirates Palace Hotel, overlooking the stunning lagoon. The running and biking course are planned in a way where competitors will be able to take in the surrounding beautiful areas of the emirate from the coastal boulevard to Corniche, across the landscaped parks, tree-lined roads, lush garden and the sparkling waters of Arabian Gulf.

A challenge to athletes, the Triathlon Tournament is bound to set the bench mark higher than before, where there will be an unmatched level of competition, promising competitors excitement and experience. If you find yourself interested in undertaking a trip when the adventure unfolds, there are many Abu Dhabi hotels to consider. One such fine hotel is Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi, which offers the best Abu Dhabi hotel deals, amidst its opulent settings of a true five-star hotel.
